Not everyone starts off easy

Not everyone starts off easy. Not everyone has it all laid out for them. However, that you did not or do not have it all laid out for you, does not mean you have to achieve less or remain incapacitated. Truth is, soaring in life is often times akin to riding a bicycle. For those of us who are familiar with bicycles, we know that to really get going, you have to gather momentum. Same applies to life. Even water understands that to really get going, all it needs is perseverance till it breaks through the rock, and after that, it flows so freely and beautifully and is simply unstoppable. What do you desire today? Perseverance is a trait of champions!

Courage flips the script!

Atimes in life, you have to go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention. I am sure you must have come across or heard this popular maxim which says "life begins at the end of your comfort zone." More often than not, to achieve what no one else has achieved, you have to travel paths no one else has traveled or simply settle for the status quo. This reminds me of the courageous words of a friend - Clara Okpara... "Eta, I do not want to live an ordinary life". Today, are you going to take that bold step towards achieving your dream(s)? Or are you going to keep delaying that courageous act and end up doing so for the rest of your life. I call on you today. Are you a child of GOD? If yes, what are you waiting for? Today, step forward to your lion. Be courageous. Courage is proof of Faith. Victory surely awaits you on the other side. Have a lovely week ahead.

Never Give Up

Image
Message to someone out there: Never give up. I am sure you have that thing or those things you earnestly desire for yourself. Don't give up. The proof of what you truly desire is Pursuit. I repeat, don't quit. Pursuit reveals Passion. Many years ago, I ran into this quote; "In the long run, men always hit on what they aim at". Interestingly, I have always lived my life with this belief even before I came across the quote, but coming across it sparked something within; a reminder that this is real. Remember, don't give up.

Misconception Based on a Single Story: The Actual Abuja I Discovered

Image
Picture Credit: Chipper / Wikipedia by Eta Uso, Jr. I grew up in the oil rich Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Though privileged, my growing up years had very little travel experiences. My life basically revolved around the states of Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers State. Even till this day, I think I have travelled more times abroad in the past five years than I have travelled within my own country (Nigeria) in the over twenty years of my life. Not sure if this makes me sound less patriotic or preferably, more like a Global Citizen. Growing up, I was privy to tales about the city of Abuja from friends, cousins and yes, the print media. Tales of Abuja being the city of fantastic mansions, luxurious cars, fast money and furthermore, a city with the finest private parties with accompanying financial recklessness being often exhibited by the stupendously rich. Abuja was in simple terms described and projected as Nigeria's El Dorado and the repercussion was instant (citize...

Do Not Resist Enmity Against You

Word for Today: Don't feel bad or dampened. Neither should you seek to respond to enmity. Lest you didn't know or may have forgotten; Enmity was what promoted Joseph. Enmity promoted Daniel. Enmity has been the propeller to sucess of many than love from friends. Why is this so? Remember, GOD is the judge of the whole universe. He sees it all. Thus, most often than not, you are promoted not for what you did, but rather, you are promoted because of what was done to you. When the enemy executes evil plans against you, our GOD, the judge of the whole universe, looks upon your case and executes judgement on your behalf. And for every judgement, there is a punishment and a compensation. Those who leave vengeance to the Lord will always be compensated. If our earthly judges can grant tasty compensations on earthly cases, how much more the Judge of the whole universe!!! Remain blessed. Shalom.

Nigeria: We Didn't Toil. So We Might As Well Let Go.

by Eta Uso, Jr. Is it not sweet yet sour that once upon a time a few people clamoured that we stick to a system of rotational Presidency by virtue of zoning. Yet today, these same few people, believe that it is either out or war if a certain section insists on completing their own circle. While the above may be sweet and sour, this section is out-rightly sour. In that, our Nigeria of which we have today and are seemingly seeking to actively destroy on the altar of self interest and lust for power, a very large chunk of us did not toil for it. Rather, the spirit of Nigeria today in which we seek to destroy is a legacy bequeathed us by brave and patriotic men of honour, very Nigerians as us, now departed. We never toiled for her (Nigeria), our sweats neither blood never went down in exchange for the soul of she (Nigeria) that she might live. We gave nothing for her progress, so what's there to loose? We might as well just destroy her. Yet, though we seek to destroy her ...

APC Has Captured A Lost Generation

by Eta Uso Jr I feel it necessary to bring forward that the Digital Age seems to have done a little more harm than good. Well, at least more harm than good to the lazy mindsets of this generation.  How? It is simple. The wealth of information our generation gets exposed to in real-time is so alarming that it has resulted in poverty of attention. Politically however, this poverty of attention has resulted in a chunk of the Nigerian masses not being able to determine or pinpoint what really matters most.  Nonetheless, irrespective of the poverty of attention ravaging our youths of today, one certain trait that seems to have remained constant is the desire to be popular on social media, or at most, follow what's seemingly popular. This can be buttressed with the splurge of politically correct statements that seem to be everywhere these days, thus consuming the 'lazy minds' of this digital generation into thinking that what is 'politically correct' is ...

Your Present Troubles Are Small Your Glory Will Outweigh Them And Will Last Forever

By Eta Uso [Jr] "For our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever." - 2 Corinthians 4:17 This above scripture reminds me of a Church service I attended some years ago. During that service, the Pastor while preaching, made a statement that has remained with me till date. He said; "those who do not understand your Story, will not understand your Glory".  The above statement is true. Many see you today, wealthy, happy and in good health. Most of the time, you may even be ascribed to as being lavish or extravagant in your way of living. Many will criticise you for this, many will hate you even before they have the opportunity of meeting you. I tell you, do not blame them. They do not know your story. If only they knew what you endured. For example; they may never know that the man who got his first contract and chose to buy a brand new Toyota Prado SUV was actu...

Give Your Best - by Eta Uso (Jr)

Yesterday, while taking a break, I came across something which yielded some points worth pondering, and thus came this question for you and I:   ..would you rather shun mediocrity and do rightly, what you have to do now, or would you have the time to do it all over again? Knowing that in our world today, time and chance are two very powerful factors, am sure if we take cognizance of these facts, we would arrive at the right answer to the above question!   Shalom.   -- Eta Uso (Jr) Twitter: @royaltyuso

You Walked In Through That Door With Nothing Material - by Eta Uso (Jr)

“As long as you are proud you cannot know GOD. A proud man is always looking down on things and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down you cannot see something that is above you.” ― C.S. Lewis. Remembering always, how you walked in through that door, would ignite a sense of check and balance against giving room for pride to grow in you. No doubt, some of us where born into unequivocal affluence, while some of us were born into middle class or out-rightly poor families. However, the material state in which we were born into, does not change the fact that we all individually walked into this world with no material gifts. Thus, just as we had no power to choose which families we were born into, neither do we have the power even this day to assume the role of gods over the future. Pondering on the above, it is only honourable that in whatever high state we find ourselves today, one should never keep walking like there is no ground below n...

Don't Swallow Everything - We All Have A Sense Of Taste. Taste it! - by Eta Uso (Jr)

Could it be out of laziness? Or simply out of the refusal to engage our minds even while at rest, that causes us to take in everything of what we are shown, rather than what it actually is. How many of you truly analyze the words or actions of your mentor(s)? How many of you task yourselves to check that though you see red, it could actually be green? How many of you are even conscious that you embody a mind of your own? To this last question, the problem is simple, you can never be conscious that you possess a mind of your own, when you are not even conscious of the fact that you are unique. Thus, on mentor-ship; yes, look up to your mentor(s), but that does not mean lose yourself to your mentor(s). Shalom. -- Eta Uso (Jr) Twitter: @royaltyuso

Fear is Exaggerated - by Eta Uso (Jr)

What is fear? Am sure many people would find it difficult at instantly defining the meaning of fear. Most people would define fear by reusing the word 'fear' in their definition. Some other people would define 'fear' by the utilizing the word 'scared'. Am sure almost no one, if any at all, would be able to give a proper definition of 'fear' within the first 5 - 10 seconds of being asked. What does this then tell us? Simply shows that 'fear' is not something we can physically hold onto. This further tells us that our ability to embrace what we cannot define is simply out of our inability to utilize our power of 'choice'. Why embrace 'fear' when you can embrace 'boldness'? Both characteristics are non-physical, thus our ability to choose between both resides in our minds. Knowing this, why then do we choose 'fear' and its accompanying limitations, when we can as easily choose 'boldness' and its accompanying...

This Is The Truth by Eta Uso (Jr)

Some people, either out of previous experiences or of self-exaltation, have tended to find perfect friendship with the entity known as 'paranoia'. These persons believe that someone or people out there is/are always trying to bring them down or stop them from achieving their goals. Today, I besiege you to give a chance at and embrace the attitude of 'Pronia' (the believe that the world is conspiring to help you). You would be amazed at the total turnaround and satisfaction this would bring you. Embracing Pronia is not about being in denial. Rather, it is all about creating your own reality. The last time I checked, no man could/can truly define reality. Or if I make ask, what is reality? The answer is that, there is no answer. However, we all know that reality does exist. O yes it does! And it's simple; Reality is simply what you make it. A trip to the Moon was never deemed possible until 'Believe' pondered it as a reality and thus it became...

The Meal That Almost Kept The Eagle From Soaring

"My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. Say to wisdom, You are my sister, and to insight, You are my relative. They will keep you from the adulterous woman, from the wayward woman with her seductive words...: I have covered my bed with colored linens from Egypt. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon. Come, let’s drink deeply of love till morning; let’s enjoy ourselves with love! My husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey:... ...Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say. Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths. Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng. Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death." Ab ove te xt: Culled from Proverbs 7 [The Holy Bible] -- "As I've come to see the weaker side of me, I realized His grace is what I'll need...” "When sin demanded justice for my soul, Mercy said no I...

You Have No Cause To Achieve Lower Than Your Mark

In-case you missed the heading, I would repeat it again for free; You Have No Cause To Achieve Lower Than Your Mark! Like someone once said "Find out what you are really here for and chase it down with every sweat and fiber in your being". This quote applies to every aspect of your life, be it your academics; find out why you are really in school and chase it down with every sweat and fiber in your being. Until you begin to ask 'Why', you would never really appreciate the value of aiming and achieving the best in wherever you find yourself. It is an indisputable fact that if you do not know 'Why' you are in school, you would never understand 'Why' it is important that you read your books and achieve high grades every semester/term. Even in your local societies and even in politics at different levels, until you ask yourself 'Why' you have been elected to lead, you would never come to the complete understanding of the responsibilities and a...

My National Service

Image
With pride in God, I can boldly say; I have served my country well. It has been months of dedication and service, both in the sun and in the rain but it was worth the while. Today, I receive the certificate of honor, of which stands as a testament to my 365 days of total service to my nation (Nigeria). For many, it may have been a bumpy ride, but I am thankful to God Almighty that he took me in his arms and made mine a pleasant experience and a period I would cherish forever. To my good friends at my place of service (Zain Aberdeen, Dr. Inih, Abbey, Okeke Oguejiofor, Itohan Ukpebor and few others to mention) i'd say; Together, we made it. To my family, i'd say; Thank you. Your support cannot be quantified. To all those who gave me undeserved privileges because of my service uniform; I say, God bless you. I not only feel honored, I am honored. Looking back, I smile because it was worth it. However, while today marks the end of my service to...

Usain Bolt: The Fastest Thing Running

Image
Usain Bolt (World's Fastest Man Since The World Begun) I waited three years for this moment. Finally it came! Usain Bolt is the Olympic 100m champion and more-so, he has re-written the history books by setting a new Olympic record with 9.63 seconds. GOD bless you. JUSTIFIED!

Why The Bruhaha About Cassava Bread?

In the aftermath of President Goodluck Jonathan's approval of major incentives, aimed at encouraging the production of Cassava bread in the country, lots of people have come up with different satirical phrases across social media.  Based on the above background, it became pertinent and in the spirit of objectivity that I outlined few cogent benefits of the scheme below.   When people make fun of Nigeria using the 'Cassava' phrase, it only goes to show how far people would let themselves be led by their misunderstanding. I am certain that those who jeer the words 'cassava republic', certainly have not even bothered to see the many benefits the production of Cassava bread in Nigeria would bring. Do you know that with the cassava bread initiative, the nation would b e saving the N635bn being spent on the importation of wheat? Do you know that Cassava bread is cheaper and healthier? Do you know that jobs would be created as more manpower would be recruited ...

Even The Waters Danced To Michael Jackson

Image
If you have been to the Dubai Mall to see the water-display, am sure seeing the fountain choreograph different kinds of music would surely not be new to you. However, what makes this video special is that not only did the water dance, it danced to one of the greatest hits by the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Watch and See for yourself. :)

In Uyo on the 25th of June, 2012.

Image
Arrived Uyo around 8:30am and just as usual, I was welcomed into the city by the exquisite roads, courtesy of the very high standards in road construction delivery as executed by the German construction giants; Julius Berger. On getting done with my engagements in Uyo at around 10am, my intention was to travel back to my state that same day. However, I chose to spend some time in the city (Uyo) till 3pm before leaving and as it turned out, I met these friends of mine (youth corpers serving in Akwa Ibom State) who were like " you cannot leave today o, you must hang-out with us today ". It might surprise you that in as much as it was a simple decision to make, it took me a little over three hours to finally make up my mind to stay. Even at the point were we all got into a car and each of them took turns in getting to their respective houses to change into casual wears, I still had not yet decided if I was willing to spend a night there. Well, after everyone was set in the...
